Choosing The Best Catfishing Gear

A typical fishing rod and other fishing gear can be good for a tranquil, quiet day fishing in rivers. But when you get serious about chasing the monster cats, low quality equipment is a big obstacle and should be avoided. For one to be able to catch trophy cats, he or she must have the high quality catfishing equipment that can be of great assistance in securing a great catch.
Most anglers complain of having to catch a gargantuan cat only to let it lose because of the poor quality rods, lines or hooks that cannot withstand the strength of big and heavy cats that can range from thirty to eighty pounds and even heavier. Thus, it is important to look for gear which is sophisticated enough and made of high quality materials. The weight of the catfish is not the only item that must be considered, however. Your gear should also be durable enough to accommodate the different and varying strength of river currents.
After finding a reputable store, new anglers should begin with a spacious tackle box so that they have somewhere to place additional items. Having an organized tackle box can help anglers to get better results because doing so can help them easily determine the proper equipment to use in different scenarios. When angling for bigger cats, for example, heavy duty gear should be used and simpler equipment should be used for smaller fishes like channel cats. Changing tackle will be easier even when pressed for time if the anglers have organized tackle boxes.
Stores with available catfish tackle also offer items the fulfill other needs of anglers, and asking for the managers opinion on the best recommended rods, reels, lines, and other gear can ensure anglers pick the best set of equipment.
A catfisher should first have a reliable rod which should measure six and a half feet that will be appropriate for medium to heavy duty catfishing. The rods are either made of wood, heavy duty hard plastics or metals. It does not really matter which type of rods you use, as long as it can withstand the strength of the catfish. Asking for assistance at the store from knowledgeable personnel and reading user reviews can help you choose the best possible equipment for your budget.
Tips For Catfishing In Ponds

This is a bit different from fishing in streams and rivers pond catfishing. You can leave your boat at home and cast your line from the banks of the pond. Usually, youll find three types of catfish in ponds the smallest being the channel catfish which is probably going to be the one youll be catching most often. The flathead and blue catfish are there too and they can grow to enormous dimensions. Theyre all bottom feeders, but the channel catfish prefers scavenging along the banks, going after surface bugs and dead forage fish very important to our managed catfish ponds, as they help to keep them clean. These are also easier to catch and land and are able to survive the catch and release activity as channel catfish are pretty tough guys.
So for these smaller catfish, use a tackle which is very light and consider taking several rods with you too because that means you can keep more lines in the pond at the same time. That way, youll certainly catch more fish and youll have a wonderful day, catfishing in ponds.
We all know that flatheads are the hogs in catfish country. Always ravenous, they have a highly developed sense of smell and will go after anything and that means anything at all as long as it smells like food! The blue catfish generally stay out in the deeper areas of the pond and are a bit more selective in what theyll eat, preferring live bait like perch, chub or goldfish!
So, whats the best kind of tackle to use when going after the bigger catfish, like the blues or flatheads? A medium-action rod should do the trick if you use a spinning or bait-casting reel along with it. Rig it with a treble hook because these big guys can easily grab your bait from a single-point hook and disappear into the wild blue yonder before you know whats happened! But if you use a treble hook, your big cat has to take it into its mouth to get at the bait and by that time, hes hooked himself.
Let your lines soak and make certain that you set your drags loosely then, as your cat grabs your bait and runs, hell ensnare himself. Then, when you see that your drag is smoking, you can tighten the rod until you feel the pressure building sufficiently to start fighting your fish. And this will keep the cat on your hooks.
Carp Bait Butyric Acid Advice To Make Your Homemade Baits Shockingly Powerful!

Find out how to beat readymade baits by using butyric acid! It is one of the most well known bait and flavour components in carp fishing today, rated by Bill Cottam boss of Nutrabaits in his top ten. It is used alongside pineapple flavours in instant readymade baits. But how can you use it even more effectively than that? How much do you know about butyric acid that will improve your catches right now? This revealing article will really make you think!
Use of butyric acid as a flavour and as a flavour booster is nothing new. It can make a difference to baits when just a few drops are added but then again you might experiment with far more generous levels in your homemade baits to really make them act like beacons to carp!
It has been used for decades by those in the know, but it has become popular especially as an instant attractor and it works very well in low water temperatures and is a great alternative to using the often over-used Tutti Fruiti for example. Saying that in my opinion the pineapple and butyric acid combination is over-used far too much these days. It is very well worth remembering that butyric acid can be used with so many flavours, even if they do not mix really well together!
For example pure pineapple flavour ethyl butyrate is not soluble in glycerine, but you can still use the two substances together in a bait dip for instance and they are both highly water-soluble which is a massive advantage in making your baits perform the best! All it takes is having a will to be experimental and finding out more and more, to the unique benefit of your own personal fishing success, instead of slavishly just following the herd and just achieving merely average catch results.
In my opinion and personal experience any angler who actually makes the conscious decision to make himself a better more aware angler can through persistence achieve the kinds of catches the top anglers catch. But having a vastly heightened awareness and deep knowledge of how bait substances affect fish and also water just as importantly I might add, can out-fish the best anglers.

There’s nothing I find more invigorating than the smell of salt air and the sound of waves crashing onto a rugged beach. Since I am a devoted fisher, I make sure that my sea fishing tackle box is always filled and standing by. You never know when a fishing trip will come up! Hence, I think that it is a good idea to be prepared to go immediately, with the most resourceful fishing equipment available. I may encounter so many different species of fish that I must have at least 2 sea fishing reels at my fingertips. A reel that I am partial to is the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Revo winch baitcast reel. Here is my reason.
Sea Fishing Tackle: Chief Facets of the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Revo Winch Baitcast Reel
With a price tag of roughly 163.00, this Abu Revo reel is filled with sought-after and significant elements. This is an exceptionally powerful low profile reel that’s equal to any fish species you might encounter. I’ve always had a liking for baitcaster fishing reels such as this Revo since they seem to be able to handle heavy line without difficulty. The gearing makes it possible for the fisherman to apply lots of pressure on the fish as he/she battles it. Another positive feature is that a baitcaster gives the angler plenty of control while casting. The Abu reel will permit you to be in command of lure placement with much precision by merely thumbing the spool At last, since the reel placement is near to the rod, this gives you a lot of leverage during the battle from this remarkable item of sea fishing tackle.

I have always favoured Abu fishing equipment because it has meticulousness Swedish engineering. Elements like augmented spool capacity, and also a forceful 5.4:1 gear ratio merge to make this reel one of my most preferred. This is a remarkably strong fishing reel due to components like the Duragear large size brass main gear that provides remarkable cranking power when it is really necessary. I additionally like the modernised Carbon Matrix drag system’s exceptional smoothness, despite what the drag setting is. Abu’s novice X-Craftic alloy features make sure that the reel is exceedingly rust resistant and also light in weight.

Considering the many types of fish available, it makes me question myself as to why I’m so biased toward carp fishing. In some way it appears dishonourable to reduce this smart and crafty fish to decorative pools and ponds, since it can be such a worthy opponent for fishermen. If you been fishing for carp, you know what I’m referring to! Below is info regarding a reel which I thin really works well and is a significant accessory to my set of carp fishing tackle: the CFS-BR60 baitrunner spinning reel.
Carp Fishing Tackle: Main Parts of the CFS-BR60 Baitrunner Spinning Reel
Whenever you’re gripping this piece of carp fishing tackle in your hand, you’re sure to be struck by its quality. The CFS-BR60 has lots of attributes which you would normally find on a custom-built reel, except at an in-stock price. A rewarding mark of this reel is its efficiency functioning. I’ve found out the CFS-BR60 contains a computer-generated rotor assembly which is computer-balanced. It causes the reel to have a special fee, plus it reduces vibration. In addition, the line lay oscillation system is brilliant too. It has an anti-corrosive body, plus lots of high tensile power for managing huge combative carp. It contains a reversible wooden handle with a foldable one touch feature, together with a built-in ball bearing for straightforward easy cranking. It comes with an aluminium spool which is micro-ported.

While I don’t ordinarily consider form, I must say that I feel this reel has a lustrous look and vivid exterior which contributes a unique European form and feel to it. The same as any ordinary baitrunner, the mechanism mechanically unfastens when the handle is wound toward the front, quickly moving the clutch to the main drag. It also has a pre- tensioned clutch. The capacity of the CFS-BR60 is 160yd of 18lb test line, 130yd of 20lb, plus 90yd of 35lb. It contains a 5.2:1 gear ratio, and has 12 ball bearings. If you’re considering acquiring a new piece of quality fishing tackle, do be sure to give the CFS-BR60 a serious look.

Last Saturday, we were blessed with perfect English summer weather. Not a cloud in the sky and the air was calm. Ideal for a day of pike fishing.
I had set my alarm for 5 am, allowing three hits of the repeat button before I had to get out of bed, which I gladly took. At 5.30 I went to the shower to wake up, got dressed and sat down in the car that I had prepared with my fishing gear the night before to avoid delays in the morning.
It is a 20-minute drive from my home in Beech Branch reservoir and when it came to around 6.30 and had about 3 or 4 fishermen who could not see sitting on the bench waiting for breakfast looking Pike. I put my chair in a nice location on the eastern shore, near a patch of trees and began to cope up.
I’m not the most experienced Pike angler in the world, most of my time is spent fishing fly fishing set to face my would be a matter of trial and error. I was using a 11.6 “2.75 pounds all round pike rod and reel fixed. I had a number of different lures and spinners in my tackle box, but chose a spoon Abu Atom, mainly by look attractive to me. Who knows if the fish will like as I do.
Once created, I turned my camp chair, bring a bottle of Spitfire in the cup holder, cast out and sat down.

Probing The Bottom When Carp Fishing

Whenever you speak to many carp anglers they’ll explain to you carp fishing is actually easy and should you stick to the fundamental principles you’ll have lot of success fishing in both rivers and lakes. In spite of this, there are lots of methods you can use that will build up your catch rate dramatically.
A decisive factor, when fishing on every lake will be the right choice of swim and also the location that you present the bait to the carp you want to catch. Many carp anglers may select a swim which offers at least one characteristic that they can fish to, this may be a sunken tree, island or in most cases a bed of lily pads. Carp love to conceal themselves in these features and if you stand for just a few minutes in the summer sometimes you will notice Carp lurking close to these features, notably lily pads.
Now, if we just look for a swim which has visible features as explained above then we have a good start but there are far more tactics we can benefit from to even further increase our likelihood of catching those elusive carp. What I am referring to here is the bottom of the lake, we will want to find a weed free spot and if possible a gravel bar, Carp will feed heavily on gravel bars but just how can we find them?
We use a uncomplicated tactic to probe the bottom of the lake and we actually feel through the rod tip precisely what the bottom is like, by using this strategy we will identity silt areas, weed free areas and gravel bars, these are the exact spots we need to be fishing.
To make use of this strategy we work with a weighty lead, something about 3 to 4oz and we tie this to the end of the main line with out using a hook. We cast the lead out and let it sink to the bottom, when the lead has hit the bottom we tighten the line with the rod tip pointing down towards the bank. We know life the rod and very slowly pull the lead forward and we will feel every bump on the lake bed. When the rod tip is pointing toward the sky we drop the rod back to the water and reel in the slack line. Again we very slowly lift the rod pulling the weight along the bottom as we lift the rod upwards.
